Artemis' eternally smooth, reflective voice joins deft breakbeat/trip-hop hybrids, bringing real depth and soul to the sometimes aloof genre of electronic music. Some of Gravity's tracks are rich and symphonic ("Fountain of Life" and "Lagoon/Baba") while others are gorgeously finespun and understated ("Angel" and "Subterranean"), but the potent artistic vision here definitely unites them all and gives Gravity an overarching sense of purpose and drive. As an artist, Artemis seems interested in the place where personal feelings meet up with swifter supernatural currents; her imagery is timeless and right at home among highly patterned soundscapes. And unlike many other cosmically inclined songwriters, she always acknowledges how complicated and inherently bittersweet her subject matter is. The result is that Gravity pulls off the near-impossible: it is both sleek and spiritual, modern and mythic. Highly recommended.
