Selling Your Music

Direct sales to the public from our web site: Consumers come to our web site to buy albums downloads and physical CDs

Full digital distribution to all major music services including iTunes: Magnatune now uses IODA as its digital distribution partner and distributes to iTunes, Rhapsody, Snocap, eMusic, Amazon, Gracenote and these other services. If you already have digital distribution in place, you can opt-out of this part of our services.

Music Licensing: By far the favorite feature among our artists, we are the only label in the world to sell commercial use rights to our music catalog online. We are one of Google's top hits for "music licensing.”

Non-exclusivity: Magnatune's agreement with artists is completely non-exclusive and you keep all the rights to your own music, so you can still sign wherever else you want

Exceptional audio quality: Unlike most online digital music sites, Magnatune offers its music in five different audio formats including CD-quality WAV files, so your music sounds absolutely fantastic. Other formats available include MP3, FLAC, OGG, and AAC.

Advertising: We regularly pay for advertising in Google as well as print journals like Filmmaker Magazine. We spend money to make money, and as one of our musicians, you get a 50% share of our business.

Exposure among filmmakers: Each month, we send music to music supervisors with films in production, then follow up. We also do music licensing workshops at events like the LATV Fest and others.

Trade shows: We attend many leading industry trade shows, such as South by Southwest, IFP Market, MacWorld and others.

Promo CDs: We've given away over 20,000 compilation albums (across 6 genres) at trade shows and other events.

Services to Musicians

Artists Profile: We create and tailor an artist profile web page for you on Magnatune that includes links to your music.

Photos: Visit us in California and we will provide photography services for you or your band to use on our website or for publicity.

Accounting visibility: Every sale (both to consumers and for licensing) is logged in our database and totally visible to you at any time. You can see who bought your music, at what price, and exactly how much we owe you.

We build your email list: You'll get the email addresses of your own customers, helping you to build your fan base. When you put out a new album, you can send email alerts to your previous customers telling them about it.

Music Distribution

Music sold through affiliates: As an Internet-savvy label with a large, high quality catalog, we continually attract new business partnerships. As the company profile grows, so do our affiliates and your music is heard worldwide.

Remixes: We are partnered with CC Mixter (which was originally created by Magnatune musician Victor Stone) and regularly feature remix contests there. This creates exposure and excitement around your music, as well as interesting variations on your music that we sell (and of course, you get paid for sales of the remixes).

Growing partner network: We operate internationally and cultivate worldwide distribution partnerships. Specialized sites such as Koodoo ( France ), Novatunes ( Germany ), TuneTribe (UK), and eDongCity ( China ) all carry our music.

Licensing Reseller Network: A number of other music licensing companies have our music in their catalog, and are actively selling it. This broadens our reach considerably, and helps us break into the major Film, TV and Advertising markets.

Promote Non-Commercial use: In alliance with the Creative Commons, we maintain generous policies around making low-fi versions of your music available for non-commercial use. Students, Film-makers in production, Remix artists and charities can all use your music for free as long as they credit you and are not making money off of it. This generates additional exposure, partnerships and distribution for your music.

In-store music: In partnership with Windmill Digital, in-store radio channels, piped by satellite, are offered for sale throughout Europe

We champion your music: We don't carry your music unless we love it and we plug your music to everyone we meet. We're proud of our selection and we make people listen to it.

We actually do what we say: A rarity in the music business, you'll actually make money off your own music because you will actually receive checks from us.

We collaborate with you: While our contract with you is non-exclusive, once you start receiving regular payments from us and start seeing results from our effort, we expect you to participate and regularly interact with us to help promote you, your music, and Magnatune. We aren't passive, and we don't expect you to be either.

We provide credibility by association: Magnatune is known all over the world for a highly selective catalog of music. Magnatune will bring you status and buzz.
